Drip... Drip...

24 januari 2017 - Buenos Aires, Argentinië

Over the past few days, we explored Montevideo. This was not much of an effort,  since the old city centre is cute, but very tiny. The rest of the city has a nice, relaxed vibe, but cannot be considered very pretty. Despite - or actually because of - the lovely weather, we were regularly dripped on, not by rain but by the ubiquitous airconditioning units suspended from every building.... yuck! Saturday was so hot that we decided to go to the city beaches, which are interspersed with green, palm tree-dotted parks. The seaside rambla is probably the biggest selling point of montevideo, with a beautiful sunset to finish it off.

Despite our best efforts to blend in, we did notice people staring at us a lot. We began to think that we had "tourists" written in neon letters above our heads, but then yours truly realised that her skin emitted enough light for that already....  we will work on that some more.

Yesterday we took a bus and then a boat to cross the rio de la plata to Buenos Aires. We bought "two bottles whiskey for the way" (Kendrick et al., 2012)  on the boat, duty free of course ;). What a difference!  This city is definitely prettier, but also much more hectic, and the hostel is buzzing with crazy stories. A thunderstorm just ended a rather overcast day, but tomorrow will probably require SPF 50 again...

Haha oh dear, the flashlight bright hues of Renskes Skin. You bring light in the darkness my dear, in more ways than one! ;) I'm very curious to see how it turns out over the next couple of months though. Will we all recognize you at all, when you come back? Time will learn!

Required teasing done with: Such an adventure! :D It sounds amazing... I'm very curious about the culture where you two are. Oddities and stand out things that you notice... If you have time and inspiration, I'd love to read a blog on that. (Alternatively, you can always ramble at me over some form of chat if you feel like it!)
