Back to Uruguay

3 februari 2017 - Punta Del Diablo, Uruguay

Phew.... OK,  so here is what went down. We spent five days in Buenos Aires,  a beautiful and big city which honestly would have deserved more time. In the limited time we had, we were dutiful tourists and visited a beautiful tango show (thank you, Sanja and Paola!), and Caminito, a colourful street in the La Boca neighbourhood. I wasn't feeling too well the last day, so I did not get the chance to dance myself. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to come back again sometime...

On Saturday, we took the boat back to Uruguay, landing in the ridiculously adorable town of Colonia del Sacramento. That same day, we took a bus from there to Montevideo, and from there to Punta del Este, for a one-night stopover. Honestly, we were glad to leave the next day, what a terrible place! It is a town where the rich go to party, and it is filled with pretentious high rise apartment flats that defile an otherwise lovely coastline. They are building a Trump tower there... enough said.

From there, we left to Cabo Polonio. This place is the polar opposite of Punta del Este; a small village of low shacks clinging to the dunes, sand roads and limited availability of electricity (forget about internet). We arrived when it was already dark. From the entrance to the park we were taken by jeep to the town, through pitch black forest with fireflies (!), across the beach into town, with the houses and terraces lit only by candles and the lighthouse. Despite some clouds, we saw so many stars, the milky way, and meteorites... Orion is upside down here by the way.

In the jeep, we met a super nice Canadian/Uruguayan guy called Sebastien, wIth whom we hung out to see the sea lions, and who drove us to Punta del Diablo the next day.

And that is where we are right now, dear reader, for a few weeks of beach, study and I don't know what. We had some rain but today looks great again, so we will savour the sun now.

Until Later!
